For centuries, Canada Geese have flocked to the safe haven of Shemogue Harbour. The nearby fields and marshlands provided much-needed nourishment for these weary migrants. Hence the name Chimougoui, which is Micmac meaning good feed for geese.

Today, the Little Shemogue Country Inn, Port Elgin, NB, Canada, continues the tradition of catering to hungry travellers seeking a respite for the soul. Since 1993, owners Petra and Klaus Sudbrack have been welcoming visitors from North America and Europe to their historic country inn. Each guest is treated with grace and hospitality in the time-honoured Maritime tradition, and in the language of their choice — English, German or French.

The Inn is internationally renowned for its service — and its cuisine. From sumptuous five-course meals to picnics on the private beach, Petra's culinary skills are guaranteed to delight. For outdoor adventurers, the Inn offers customized bicycling, hiking, canoeing or skiing packages and an ideal home base for exploring the rest of the Maritimes. For those who enjoy privacy, the Inn's elegant suites provide quiet comfort in a spectacular natural setting.

As the inn's reputation has spread, the inn's clientele has become increasingly diverse. In the last few years, there has been demand for larger rooms with more storage space for extended stays. Business groups have requested meeting rooms and everyone, according to Klaus, wants a whirlpool and fireplace in their room. The new annex, opened in the spring of 1999, provides a common room for meetings or receptions of up to 20 people, three fireplaces, and a whirlpool in each room. The new annex also boasts a wonderful view of the sea.
